Hrithik Roshan, often hailed as Bollywood’s “Greek God” for his striking looks and impressive physique, is one of India’s most versatile and celebrated actors. Known for his remarkable dancing skills, intense performances, and a career that has seen him take on diverse roles, Hrithik has become a defining figure in Hindi cinema.

He made his explosive debut in 2000 with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, which became an instant blockbuster, earning him widespread acclaim and numerous awards. But little did he know that following the release of his debut film, tragedy struck his father Rakesh Roshan. Two men attacked him outside his office, reportedly due to extortion-related issues. Hrithik, who was just starting his career, recalled the shock and fear that took hold of him and his family as they grappled with the harrowing incident.

During a conversation with Simi Garewal, Hrithik Roshan admitted that he felt a profound sense of responsibility for the incident, even considering stepping away from the film industry entirely. As quoted by Zoom, the actor said, “From shock to anger to seeing dad there on the hospital bed, I had never seen him like this. I wanted to quit, I really wanted to just quit films because I knew I was directly or indirectly responsible for what had happened to him and nothing was worth it. All this is not worth his life.”

With evident emotion, Hrithik added, “I think I should have [quit films] because it is very disillusioning and maybe, it goes from bad to worse. I know I had that chance then. I did not take the first step so I cannot hold anyone else responsible for not doing anything about it. I did not do anything about it.”

Hrithik Roshan could never celebrate the success of his debut film

Hrithik’s father fortunately survived the attack, and this near tragedy brought their family closer, strengthening their bond and reinforcing their focus on each other’s safety. However, amidst the turmoil, he never had the opportunity to celebrate the monumental success of ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.’ The incident marked a turning point, not only in Rakesh Roshan’s career but in Hrithik’s life as well, reminding him of the challenges that come with fame and the importance of staying strong in the face of adversity.
