Lawrence Bishnoi: The Rise of India’s Most Notorious Gangster

Lawrence Bishnoi has become a significant name in India’s criminal underworld, establishing himself as one of the country’s most cunning gangsters. Over the years, he has expanded his network across multiple states, making headlines for various criminal activities and clashes with law enforcement.

Early Life and Family Background

Born on February 22, 1992, in Abohar, Punjab, Lawrence Bishnoi hails from a higher middle-class family. His father, Ravindra Bishnoi, served as a police constable and was also a landlord. Lawrence’s younger brother, Anmol Bishnoi, initially aspired to be an athlete and boxer but later joined Lawrence’s criminal network.

Lawrence’s family belongs to the Bishnoi community, which has roots in Rajasthan and a profound respect for nature and wildlife, especially the blackbuck deer. Lawrence’s early nickname, “Milky,” was given due to his fair complexion, but as he grew, he became known for his stubborn and fierce personality.

Entry into Crime

During his college years at DAV College in Chandigarh, Lawrence became involved with several friends who would later play significant roles in his life, such as Goldy Brar and Vicky. Motivated by his friends, Lawrence contested in the college elections but faced a humiliating defeat. This loss, attributed to alleged manipulation, sparked resentment within him. An altercation broke out between rival groups, and for the first time, Lawrence faced legal action, marking his initial entry into crime.

The Turning Point: Personal Loss and Rise in Violence

Lawrence’s path to becoming a gangster intensified after a tragic event involving his college girlfriend, who was allegedly kidnapped and later killed by his rivals. Devastated by her death, Lawrence sought revenge. Over time, he became entangled in conflicts with the Udaisha Gang, a powerful rival group, and formed alliances with other criminals to expand his influence.

Fighting these battles placed Lawrence under increased police scrutiny, which eventually led to his arrest. However, his notoriety grew as he managed to escape police custody during a court transfer in 2015, a major embarrassment for law enforcement.

Building an International Network

Lawrence expanded his criminal operations from jail, networking with gang members and leveraging social media to gain influence. Through associates like Goldy Brar, who is based in Canada, and his cousin Sachin Bishnoi, Lawrence’s gang continued to grow, spreading its reach into Canada, Australia, Mexico, and the U.S. His network allegedly includes over a thousand shooters, primarily recruited from a fan base of college students and local followers.

Threats to Bollywood Star Salman Khan

In 2018, Lawrence issued a chilling threat to Bollywood actor Salman Khan. His anger towards the actor stemmed from a 1999 incident in which Khan was accused of hunting and killing a blackbuck deer during a film shoot near Jodhpur. The Bishnoi community considers blackbucks sacred, and Lawrence viewed the killing as an insult to their beliefs.

Expanding Criminal Operations and Police Pursuit

Despite being imprisoned in high-security facilities, Lawrence managed to operate his gang from within, with the help of loyal associates. His influence over inmates in Ajmer Jail, where he was transferred for security reasons, enabled him to maintain control over his gang activities.

Amid rising contract killings and extortion cases attributed to his gang, Delhi Police sought his extradition to Delhi to curb his influence. Even though he remains incarcerated, Lawrence’s criminal network continues to operate, with cells spread across multiple continents.

Legacy of Crime and Future Outlook

Lawrence Bishnoi’s journey from an ambitious college student to one of India’s most feared gangsters reflects a complex mix of personal vendettas, community loyalty, and the ability to exploit modern technology to maintain a criminal empire. With support from key figures abroad and a reputation that endures, Lawrence Bishnoi remains an influential figure in India’s crime landscape, even from behind bars.
