The carp “became a star” and had a human-like face, causing people to stir up discussion

Netizens are in an uproar over a carp that has become a spirit and has a human-like face.

A tourist visiting a village in southern China was stunned after discovering a carp with a face that looked very much like a human face.

This strange fish was discovered in a tourist village of the Miao ethnic group in Kunming city, Yunnan province, China.

The video captured by the tourist shows the carp’s head has patterns that resemble a man’s mouth, nose and eyes. “This fish is a spirit,” the tourist exclaims in the video.

Immediately after being posted on social network Weibo, the 15-second video caused a stir among many Chinese netizens.

One Weibo user commented: “This is scary.”

Another person said: “Who would dare eat this fish?”

Carp have long been known to have strange patterns on their bodies, but cases of carp having patterns that resemble a human face like this one are very rare.

In 2010, Brendan O’Sullivan, a 44-year-old British man, discovered that a carp he had bought five months earlier had features resembling a human face.

“It was amazing. I could easily tell from the shape of its head that it had two human eyes, a nose and a mouth. I thought I was having a sunstroke,” the man said.

Mr O’Sullivan’s fish is currently valued at around £40,000 (equivalent to 1.1 billion VND).

In 2011, residents in Yilan County, northeastern Taiwan, were also shocked when they discovered a black and white “human-faced” carp in a pond managed by the local government.
