Singham Again first review out: Salman Khan’s cameo ‘gets all the whistles’, Rohit Shetty has created ‘magic’

Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again has released in theatres on November 1. The action-packed spectacle is meant to be an Avengers-style crossover for the characters of his Cop Universe. Naturally, the film is filled to the brim with stars and cameos. The first review for the film came from a supposed special screening held on the eve of the release, and it was all praise.

An X (formerly Twitter) handle called Bollywood Bell tweeted its review of Singham Again late on Thursday night, giving it 4.5 stars from their side. The tweet called the film an ‘action-packed blockbuster’: “Director #RohitShetty has created the same magic as he did for #Simmba but this time in a large way.”

There was special praise for the way the filmmaker presented the stars. “The Presentation of #AjayDevgn is phenomenal, especially the entry sequence, the fight scenes, the acting is just totally stunning. #AkshayKumar will please you away. He looks so badass cop and even his action sequences are Top notch. Whereas talking about the villain #ArjunKapoor is not perfect but he looks absolutely brilliant in all action sequences and whenever the face-off of Ajay Devgn & Arjun happens,” read the review.

Bollywood Bell praised Deepika Padukone’s cameo but called Ranveer Singh’s presence in the film ‘bogus’. The review also praised the VFX, saying it was ‘far better as we expected’. It called the action sequences the film’s highlight.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted, “#OneWordReview… #SinghamAgain: TERRIFIC Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dream cast. Excellent action. Superb second half… #AjayDevgn – #RohitShetty elevate Brand #Singham to new heights… Massy to the core… Big ‘S’urprise at the end is yet another seetimaar moment.”

Salman Khan aces the game

But the review reserved the highest of compliments for Salman Khan, who appears in the film as his iconic Dabangg character Chulbul Pandey. “Megastar #SalmanKhan’s THREE MINUTES Cameo receiving all the whistles & screams. #ChulbulPandey aced the cameo game,” it read.

The film’s team has maintained that there are no special screenings before release apart from a few for CBFC members and international critics. However, those reviews usually arrive on the day of the release. Hence, this analysis can be taken with a pinch of salt.

Singham Again is currently running in theatres. The film has clashed with Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 at the box office.

Singham Again Movie Review, Rating and Release Live Updates: Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, starring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Jackie Shroff, among others, was released in theatres today. The fifth film in the director’s Cop Universe has been hyped like an Avengers-style experience that unites characters from Shetty’s Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi films.

The trailer for Singham Again appeared to present a Ramayan-inspired story in which Kareena’s character is kidnapped by the antagonist Danger Lanka, played by Arjun. It is now up to Ajay’s Singham and his army to bring her back to safety.

Shetty started the franchise with Singham in 2011, and released the sequel Singham Returns in 2014. The idea of turning the franchise into a shared universe was first introduced with 2018’s Simmba, in which Ajay’s Singham makes a cameo in the climax. In 2021’s Sooryavanshi, the universe was fully established as both Singham and Simmba made an appearance in the film. While Singham Again is named after Ajay’s character, the film has been promoted as a multi-starrer with all the leads coming together to save the day. To make matters more interesting, Salman Khan’s character from Dabangg, Chulbul Pandey, will also make a cameo appearance in Singham Again.

Singham Again is clashing against Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which has been directed by Anees Bazmee. The third part of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise also stars Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Rajpal Yadav, and Sanjay Mishra, among others. It is yet to be seen which film comes out on top, in the wake of a behind-the-scenes battle for more screens. Both films are targeted towards the same audience, and will be in direct competition against each other.
