Aishwarya Rai is going through an emotionally very traumatic phase as her father Krishnaraj Rai passed away after a prolonged illness on Saturday. Almost entire Bollywood has expressed its condolences to the actress over the demise of her father and many of them, from actors, actresses, filmmakers, directors to many others have visited her to express their sympathies. However, one name that was missing was of Salman Khan.

The superstar, who was once the boyfriend of former Miss World, did not attend the prayer meeting. But why? Well, there was a time, when Salman and Aishwarya were the most happening couple of Bollywood with everyone talking about them. However, the relationship could not last the distance and they both separated after an extremely troubled period.

Interestingly, their separation grabbed the spotlight as their relationship ended in mutual recrimination. At that time, talking to media, Salman openly called Rai’s father Krishnaraj as the reason behind their breakup, reported Patrika. Let’s take a look what Bollywood ‘bhaijaan’ said at that time:

While Bollywood and its fans were shocked by the breakup, Aishwarya openly accepted her father’s diktat. The actress at that time said that it was only the misbehaviour of the actor with her father that led to their breakup. Salman had accepted his mistake but said that her father was not happy with the news of his past affairs and did not want Aishwarya to be with him.

Although Salman had accepted that the reason of breakup was Krishnaraj, he did not blame him for any bad intention and called it an obvious reaction. He had calmly said that no father would wish to have a son-in-law like Salman who had so many affairs in his previous life. He further added that he knew Aishwarya and she would not go against the wishes of her father.

Salman had also appreciated Aishwarya’s family for her good upbringing and revealed that it was the reason he was attracted and liked her. The Aishwary’s family had always taught her traditional Indian values that would not allow her to go against their wishes, added Salman. Bhaijaan had also said that he would have been very willing to get a second chance to mend their relationship, but nothing worked out. In 2007, Aishwarya married Amitabh Bachchan’s son and popular actor Abhishek with whom she has one daughter Aaradhya.
