MUMBAI: Gufran Khan, a 20-year-old from Noida, was arrested for sending a WhatsApp message and calling MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office helpline in Bandra (East). He gave a veiled threat, claiming he overheard individuals discussing a plan to kill the MLA and actor Salman Khan, said the police.

On October 25 at 9.30 pm, Siddique’s staff filed a complaint with the Nirmal Nagar police after receiving the call and two WhatsApp messages.

The Mumbai Crime Branch (Unit-8) team, working with the Noida police, tracked down Khan using the mobile number he used to contact the helpline. They brought him to Mumbai on transit remand and handed him to the Nirmal Nagar police for further investigation.

In the complaint, Siddique’s staff said, “The contents are that the accused called on the office helpline number and gave veiled threats to MLA Siddique and actor Salman Khan’s safety, claiming that their lives were under threat.”

Police said the accused’s intention was to get money by providing information about the persons who were planning the threat. “He did not demand the money, but his intention was gradually to mint money. The threat he mentioned turned out to be fake,” said the police.
