‘Laapataa Ladies,’ or ‘Lost Ladies’ as it has been titled for the international audience, is India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. The critically acclaimed full-length feature has been helmed for the screen by Kiran Rao and backed by superstar Aamir Khan. As the duo gears up to strengthen their awards campaign, they have been joined by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, who promises his support by organising its special screenings, per a Variety report. The ‘Gravity’ director will be marking his presence in London to host a screening of the title on Thursday, December 5.

‘Laapataa Ladies’ hit the screens in India earlier in 2024 and is widely regarded as the year’s best film, for it tackled a social issue and comprised an important underlying message.

According to Variety, Alfonso Cuarón is eager to host the screening for the motion picture’s much-awaited BAFTA campaign. The report also highlighted that the team is expected to promote the project through in-person screenings, including sessions at the BAFTA headquarters.

Producer Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios shared her thoughts on the film’s campaign and said, “Whoever has watched the film has really liked it, and it has resonated with people across different cultures… although it’s a satire, it’s resonating with anyone who watches it.”

She continued, “India has done a lot for the global film industry, in terms of the number of films it makes, the number of languages we have, how rich in culture we are… I think India has come of age and deserves to win an Oscar.”
