On September 21, Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor celebrates her 44th birthday, marking yet another milestone in a life full of fame, transformation, and success. Born into the illustrious Kapoor family, Kareena was destined to be a star. Her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita Shivdasani, were well-known figures in the Indian film industry, and her grandfather, Raj Kapoor, was one of its founding pioneers. From an early age, Kareena dreamed of becoming an actress, inspired by her elder sister Karisma Kapoor, who had already made a mark in the industry. However, unlike her sister, Kareena’s entry into Bollywood was relatively smooth, with the full support of the Kapoor family.

Career Beginnings and Breakthroughs

Kareena Kapoor initially signed up for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai alongside Hrithik Roshan, but she later dropped out, believing her role wasn’t significant enough. Her debut finally came in 2000 with the film Refugee, directed by J.P. Dutta. Though the movie did not perform exceptionally well at the box office, Kareena was warmly welcomed into the industry, and her beauty and acting skills were praised.

Her breakthrough role came in 2007 with the romantic comedy Jab We Met, where her performance as the bubbly, talkative Geet Dhillon resonated with audiences and critics alike. This role cemented her position as one of Bollywood’s leading actresses.

The Size Zero Phenomenon

While Kareena had always been confident and outspoken, there was a time when she faced heavy criticism for her weight. In 2006, after appearing in an item song for Don, her figure became a hot topic of gossip columns, with people criticizing her for not fitting into Bollywood’s beauty standards.

Determined to silence her critics, Kareena underwent a dramatic transformation. Opting for yoga instead of rigorous gym routines, she slimmed down to an astonishing 48 kg from 68 kg in preparation for her role in the film Tashan (2008), where she appeared in a two-piece bikini for the first time. This transformation sparked the “size zero” trend in India, and her fans and the media were amazed at how quickly she had achieved her goal.

Kareena later revealed in interviews that her weight loss journey was fueled by a strict combination of yoga, healthy meals, and discipline. She performed 108 surya namaskars (sun salutations) daily and focused on eating wholesome foods, including millets, fruits, and khichdi, while cutting out junk food and snacking on healthy options like roasted chana and makhana during shoots.

Marriage with Saif Ali Khan

In 2012, after dating for five years, Kareena tied the knot with actor Saif Ali Khan in a low-key yet glamorous ceremony. The couple had first met on the sets of Tashan, and their relationship had become the subject of much media attention. Despite the public’s constant scrutiny, Kareena and Saif maintained a strong bond and continued to support each other’s careers.

Over the years, Kareena has seamlessly balanced her personal and professional life, and even after marriage and motherhood, she remains one of Bollywood’s top actresses. Her recent roles in films like Good Newwz (2019) and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) showcase her versatility and enduring appeal.

As Kareena Kapoor turns 44, she stands as an inspiration to many. From her early days as the daughter of Bollywood royalty to becoming a trendsetter with her size zero figure, and finally, to her enduring marriage with Saif Ali Khan, she has continually evolved while staying true to herself. Kareena’s journey is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and confidence, traits that will undoubtedly keep her shining for many more years to come.
