Pushpa 2 star Rashmika Mandanna has bagged Salman Khan’s new project, Sikandar. The news was announced on Thursday morning. This is a big break for Rashmika as it marks her first film with one of the Khans in Bollywood. This also marks her fourth Bollywood film. The film will be directed by A.R. Murugadoss and release next Eid.

The news was confirmed by the production house and by Rashmika Mandanna herself. She took to her Instagram Stories and wrote, “You guys for a long time have been asking me for the next update and here it is. Surprise!! I’m truly grateful and honoured to be a part of Sikandar.”

A source told Pinkvilla that Rashmika has a pivotal role in the film. They added that the actress’s role has been ‘well-written and authored-back.’ The grapevine also said that the makers were on a lookout for a fresh pairing and that’s when Rashmika was considered. “Sajid Nadiadwala was on the lookout for a fresh pairing as the script demands that at the writing level. He narrated the subject to Rashmika and the actress was excited by not just her part, but also the overall approach of AR Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala to mount the film,” a source said.

“There’s a strong story that results in an outflow of drama and emotions. The wholesomeness that the script has to offer is what has excited both Salman and Rashmika for the film, and the duo is all excited to take it on floors in June,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Rashmika is still basking on the success of her film Animal. The actress shared screen space with Ranbir Kapoor for the same. Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office.

The actress will next be seen in Pushpa 2: The Rule. The film will feature Allu Arjun and Fahad Faasil in prominent roles. Recently, the actress spoke about the film and gave some insight into her character in the sequel.

“It starts feeling like home. Like, when you finish one film, and towards the end of the film you get really connected with the cast and crew, right, so when you have the part 2 coming, again you’re like, ‘Hey, what’s up!?’ and you just, sort of like, it’s party time,” she told Pinkvilla. Speaking about her character, Rashmika said that now her character is Pushpa’s wife. She mentioned that the sequel will have a “lot more masala” and will have more drama and conflicts.

The makers recently released the first song from the film. Titled ‘Pushpa Pushpa’, the song turned out to be a massive hit. Pushpa 2: The Rule is slated to release on August 15, 2024.
